Chiari malformation

Chiari malformation is a condition in which the lower portion of the back of the brain (Cerebellum) alters the dynamics of the passage of fluid (CSF) from the brain to the spine.

Many cases of Chiari malformation are identified incidentally and require no treatment.

The symptoms associated with chiari malformations are typically very broad but a pressure dissociation headache is common in those cases that are symptomatic. This type of headache occurs on episodes on Valsalva (bearing down) such as sneezing and typically comes and goes very quickly but is intense.

Depending on your clinical situation you may need an MRI scan of your head and upper (cervical) spine
